  • OT: Worst phone I have ever used.

So, I use (currently) an old-style flip phone. Verizon turned it off, but they sent me another phone that does 4G. They did not tell me a date for turning it off, they just did it.

It was supposed to be simple to get it working.... turn it on and follow the directions. Nope, the automatic process failed. Nobody ever set up the SIM card, so nope, no workie. No success on line, no success doing it by calling on a different phone, so I had to go to the Verizon store two towns away, where the issue got fixed. They had already had several others in for the same problem..

So I have the new phone "working". I'm holding out for a "Z-flip", but the new ones are not out yet, so I'm using this incredibly stupid thing made by a company called "kazuna", or some such name, I can't be bothered to figure out what the name really is...

I would believe it if someone said it was russian. North Koreans would have done a better job.

Not worth it to pay for something that actually works, when the thing I actually want is about to come out. So I get to use it for a month or so.

On my old LG, when you texted, you just pressed the appropriate button until the letter you wanted was selected (a/b/c or d/e/f button etc). When you got it, you could hit the next letter if it was not in the same group. If in the same group, you just waited a second, and the previous letter was "selected" so you could do the next one. Easy, simple, fast, effective.

That simple procedure never occurred to the designers of this "kazuna". Nope, on this alleged "phone", you first hit the group button (a/b/c or whatever). Then you hit the arrow button as many times as it takes to get the letter you want highlighted. Finally, you hit the OK button to signify that yes indeed you do want that highlighted letter.

Yep, three separate individual buttons to hit for each freaking letter. Like something from 1970.........no, in 1970, we already had typewriters, and folks knew how to do a keyboard, this is even more retrograde than that.

Any intelligent 5 year old would know that this system was total idiocy. It takes an adult to make something THIS stupid.......... I guess there still are folks who have no idea how to do a decent HMI.

What do you think I am waiting for? The plan is to get a z-flip.

This is an interim until that is possible.

I had a stunningly dumb smart phone for a while - we were testing them out a work. There were ZERO instructions or information on how to answer the ^%#$#@! thing when you got a call!

It turned out that you had to "swipe right", as if this was a dating app or something, and I suppose the twenty-something that designed the user interface figured that "everybody knows" that 'swipe right' means 'yes' and 'swipe left' means 'no'.

I don't text these days. I dictate, and my phone translates what I say into text with better accuracy than I could ever type on that tiny keyboard, 90-something % accurate at least.

Consider that in Chinese, each idea-gram may have several meanings. So there may be some logic to continuing to select until you get to the 'meaning' you want. Not that this translates into western languages so well...

I have a nice phone in my workshop. Oak cabinet with brass bells and corded handset. It never rings but if I turn the handle the front swings out and to reveal Johnny Walker and a couple of glasses.

Jesus man just get a smart phone and stop whining. They're virtually free with whatever plan you have. Or go big time for a decent one and spend $90.
A real qwerty keyboard, you can see what you're doing, save hundreds of naked women pics, surf the stak and so on.

So, you DID NOT read what I replied to wmgeorge?

I'm waiting for the damn z-flip 4 to come out...... meanwhile this is amazingly stupid as phones go. Designed and programmed by subnormals. I figured that would be actually funny, how stupid the phone was made to be.

It seems to be a "punishment phone".

Leaving the z-flip 4, whatever that is, out, it seems to me you need another cell company.

I have been with Pure Talk for about eleven years now. Their rates are extremely low for just the phone service and you can add as much data as you want or will use. For years they have had a choice of free phones and I have had several flip phones from them. They also provide the SIM cards without charge so you can use ANY unlocked phone. And they provide free phone help which I have used several times.

I think they got swamped with requests for phones when the 3G networks were shut down; I got caught by that: my old phone was incompatible. So I had to choose a new one from them. The smart phone I choose cost $25 plus about $10 per month for about a year. Of course I could have shopped elsewhere for an unlocked phone and there are many available. As for coverage, they buy that from the big boys in the business. I currently get service here in Beaumont from AT&T and it is good. But they also cover at least 95% of the country and I have easily used my phones on road trips to and in California.

But my real point here is is that I have had very few problems with the phones they have provided/sold to me. And when I did have a problem there always was a free tech. just a phone call away. Perhaps you need a new cell service provider.

Note: I have not mentioned the rate I currently pay because the family rate that I have is no longer available. But my price has been grandfathered in for years now. I think that is also a nice touch: no increase when they changed their rate tables. I will say that I laugh when I hear a commercial advertising some "low rate" for cell service for a single line. I have FOUR lines and pay less than those well known providers want for just one. Yes, I chuckle every time.

And if you look REAL close at an analog signal,
You will find that it has discrete steps.

So 6 months or so ago a smart phone was just “too fragile” for your needs, now you think one with a hinge in the middle will be fine because it’s technically a “flip phone”.

Go ahead and tell me how it’s different.

Nope, they are fine, and have very good coverage of the US. We travel a lot.....

z-flip.... that's what it is called, but what it actually is.... is a folding screen smart phone. https://www.samsung.com/us/smartphon...xy-z-flip3-5g/ So the folks whining that I should "just get a damn smart phone", can just put a sock in it.

If I have to explain it, you would not understand........ so keep on thinking just as you do now.... what could go wrong with never changing your mind or learning new things?

Changing your mind is a sign of weakness, so keep strong!

For the other folks, who can understand.............when it's folded, the screen is well protected inside the folded device. And, when folded it is MUCH smaller than any other smart phone. Both those things are exactly what I was looking for ever since smart phones came out..... the fact that it folds is just one possible method of providing the size and protection.

Many of the folks using them who I have asked, have told me they have dropped theirs on hard floors with no damage. That is certainly not the case with others. And the size makes it that much less likely to be "folded where it doesn't fold" (and thus broken) when in my pocket. it's also hard to "butt dial" a phone when the screen is inside a clamshell case.

Speculation that I would like it because it is a "flip type phone" is just someone else projecting their thoughts onto me. I have certain preferences, and this is the first smart phone that comes close to satisfying all of those preferences.

You got a problem with that? I don't care, that's on you.

Never heard of that make. Sound like some third world POS phone.
Knowing Verizon they probably bought out some foreign countries inventory of obsolete phones to pawn off on their customers.

I’m certainly getting stronger then. I used to give you the benefit of the doubt but my mind has been changing to start agreeing with some others on here that you just like like reading things you type out no matter what it is.

Enjoy your new “smart phone” when you get it.

Very possible. Sounds Japanese, but who knows. The programming is awful, at least for the HMI. LG was much better. The new phone will be Android, not very good, but better than nothing.

Hundreds? Those are rookie numbers, that is insultingly low. The internet is 99% porn, if you got rid of all the porn there would be one website left and it would be bringbacktheporn.com. You gotta pump those numbers way up

What are the differences between the flip 3 and 4? I bought the flip 3 earlier this year and love it. I have dropped it on concrete from waist height and not even a mark on the phone.
