The best way to determine how long to run is just look at them every couple of hours. When they look the way you want, record the time.

Agreed! pretty much how I did with aluminium too!

Aluminium is predictable for me now unless the geometry is such that certain areas will cut faster then others. In this case I might be incline to protect the area in question with gorilla tape until other areas catch up, then strip the tape.
