I know the feeling, at 74 I have outlived many friends and relatives and seems like there is never a day goes by when the tv news does not announce another well known name lost for ever. I am lucky to be able to use machinery three days a week as a volunteer at the nearby helicopter museum. Interesting things to make and lots of like minded people for company.

Maybe morbid to some, cathartic to others just to talk it out. I'm the baby of the family and last man standing at almost 80. A 90+ sister survives but the family was never co-dependent close so the pain is not great, but it's there. It's so hard for me to make friends that the effort doesn't seem worthwhile now. Recent efforts of several years have ended up a one way street going away from me sapping my limited resources. Maybe it's me and I expect too much from them, but it doesn't feel that I expect much of anything from them. Grew up in non-social environment being the youngest by 9 years was lonely, so my social skill never matured, I guess. No interest in "superficial" friends who are friends in name only.

The good (or bad) news is if you reach the late seventies or eighty still upright statistically you will have another 10 years of life.

Actually, I'm enjoying being 70+. Luckily my wife and I are in good financial shape. I don't "have" to do things I don't want to do anymore. After an early retirement I'm thinking of starting another business. Generally, life is good.
