  • Neff Index from 100 year old catalog.

Found this while browsing through an old catalog. Clever idea, good enough for a lot of millwright class work. I’m guessing the same idea has popped up in many forms since 1920.

It appears to be a weighted pointer, is that what it is?

Good for getting pretty close to perfect on work that does not justify getting out the levels and sine plates etc. A clever idea, and looks effective.

Yes, weighted pointer seems only obvious.choice.

I think such a dial attached to a magnetic V-block would be tremendous. Seems so obvious NOW that I bet such already exists.

It looks neat, but captain we're gonna need a bigger drill press vise.

And if you look REAL close at an analog signal,
You will find that it has discrete steps.

Use a similar device when bending tube.

It's called a miracle point. MSC has them for close to $200.

Found this modern equivalent with an image search. Not nearly so classy.

I’ll look up the miracle point.
