Nice vise. I have two B&S low profile vises for my hardinge horizontal mill. I got them because they work perfectly under my small mill. They look similar. Not as beafy as that one though! JR

I ended up pitching it off on eBay the same day I posted the pic. I have a beefier angle vise, and it is just another thing taking up limited space. I have been thinning out some of my hoard lately. The drawers are all full, and I have been filling boxes under the bench for a while now. When you have 20 of something you have not had the need for one in the last 5 years, it is time to let some stuff go.

          Well done.
Not being able to let stuff go would make you a hoarder.

Throwing things away because someone labeled you as a hoarder
and you let it make you feel guilt, is a BS reason to get rid of things.
Get well adjusted and keep your stuff.

As someone who has personally had to deal with hoarding situations a few times, I say good on you for recognizing when it's time to let some things go. You don't want to end up like this:

I also have an Hardinge horizontal mill with the factory swivelling vise. I have found the Hardinge vise to be almost useless for heavy milling. The tightening leverage is very small with the short factory handle, very much like you'd have with the Covel vise shown here. Recently I found a deal on a 4" Yuasa vise which is a clone of a 4" Kurt. The Yuasa does the trick with its long tightening handle.

I'd sell the Hardinge vise except for the fact it's part of the hard to find tooling I want to keep with the mill when I eventually sell it. The mill came from the onboard machine shop of a WWII ship being scrapped, $50. It was advertised as a "hard hinge" machine. As near as I can tell the machine was never used. Unfortunately it has the war production board's required low quality paint job.
