It is not politically correct to say nice things about my little car!

It is a homebuild, plywood over steel frame, 1.2 litre four cylinder. A bit of wicker work for the novelty value. I built this in early 70's at a time when I needed a commuter and we needed every penny building a house.

It had the advantage that it was low enough to park under the stairs at work so I always had a dry place to park!

That really is incredible, It's an odd combo but you did an incredible job in the finish of it and im being serious --- 1.2 liter out of what?

Cool, I think, so what do you use to hold the wicker down in front? I can see your having a little trouble there - I have many friends with wicker cars and they use "shoe goo" where it meets the cowling, open to sharing information on wicker cars, always been a passion of mine just want to help all the wicker people get the very best out of their incredible automobiles... cheerio's -------- lucky charms - fruit loops or whatever...

Took a look at the pic again --- you got an oil slick problem? or did you just wash the car and forget to let the wicker drain?

            • Wow that is a home built! You are more of a sleeper than a 3.5L rover V8 in a moggy 1000 traveler, a dark horse as they say.
my compliments on a beautiful car, I would be proud to have built that, it’s awesome
if you were making them I’m sure you would have sales.

                  thank you for your offer!

Thanks, I must confess few if any of the chaps passed appreciative comments but the girls with long hair and tie-dyed dresses were eager passengers!

Hiding in there was a modest Herald 1200 which was not really a bad fit for the project, not too heavy and just enough weet-bix to return a reasonable 0-60 being much lighter than the original steel body.

Of course the most valuable component was the radiator mascot! http://frothblowers.co.uk/images/hires/vaux30-98hr.jpg
                    One like that!

                    • Froth blowers!, those were the days, no one can afford the pub anymore, cans at home ( or bottles of bishops finger/Newcastle brown/Guinness)
the imported religion do not like alcohol so it must go.
nice hood ornament, haven’t touched a Vitesse in decades, nice little cars

The Herald, Spitfire, Vitesse were still current model cars when I built the wicker wonder.

1974 or so I was in charge of a little airport on a Pacific island and one of the people on the island had a Vitesse that he boasted to be the fastest thing in town. I told him my airport SWB Land Rover would be faster, so we organized a race. "On Friday when the weekly plane has left, the start signal will be when the flag is pulled down at the terminal building and the race will be to "The Club".

The flag went down and the Vitesse left the car park in a spray of gravel while I locked the tower and started the Land Rover. I drove down the runway, through a boundary gate, selected lowest and semi slid down a bulldozer track to the quarry, through the quarry, out across the road and parked at The Club. I was in the bar when he arrived.

Some wag told him that I had two of those white Land Rovers and he ran out and raced away!
