This is a low budget project to start with. I need a chuck, tool post and tailstock center. I do have lots of HSS and brazed carbide tool stock and all my measuring tools. Only the machinery got sold.

And if you look REAL close at an analog signal,
You will find that it has discrete steps.

When the school was new, the salesman from the equipment company "sold" them that they needed them. I have seen this happen before at another new school. The sales people come in with a long list of "needed" equipment and the school officials assume that this is what must have and voila, a shop full of unused equipment. Out tax dollars at work!!!!!

You said "I hope to get [...]" without saying "free". The implication of buying is clear.

Well, I took some of the advice and ordered a 6" chuck from Shars and a QC tool post set and live center on E**Y. They all should be here next week. We picked up the lathe and brought it home on Thursday, did a temporary wiring job to a VFD and fired it up. It is noisy as I remember it being 6 years ago when I worked on it then. There is some dressing on the flat belt that drives the spindle and the cogged belt on the Reeves drive has a "set" the hopefully gets better with some running time. It survived sitting 6 years uncovered pretty well with very little rust and just dried oil on the bare surfaces that will clean up. I should be up and running for under $500. It is a nice size for what I need at this time of my life. It is tight and the carriage is smooth. It was new in 1974 and had almost no use. I have to redo the control panel for the low voltage VFD controls, but that is not a problem. The VFD I used is a A-D 3hp unit that I had. The chuck in the tailstock is the last of my N14 Jacobs BB Superchucks.
