  • Machine Shop has Cobwebs!

It has been so long that I been able to get into the shop because of the heat it has cobwebs!
I was hoping to get in there this week but doctor appointment and work has gotten in the way!

That's a good thing. Spiders kill the bad insects.

Yes to spiders! I have "daddy longlegs" in every corner of my shop. I dont have any other bugs or spiders and this is black widow territory. JR

Around here, cobwebs appear overnight. Doesn't take days, just hours.

It's nothing to go into the basement shop, and walk through a couple cobwebs.Spiders are OK, as long as they are not black widow or brown recluse. Pretty much all of the "orb weavers" that make big webs, are helpful and not at all harmful.

Those two bad ones generally make crappy webs in hidden areas. The nice looking ones that may be a metre in diameter are made by large but not very harmful spiders.

CNC machines only go through the motions.

Cobwebs aren't so bad. My workshop is full of them. One summer night, I left the door open to let in some cooler air. I came back an hour later to find that a skunk had wandered in. It wandered back out after a while without spraying. I have kept the door shut since then.

That is nuts. Kill it with fire! Arachnophobia was a great film.

I was joking with a friend in Australia about bad spiders there and such, and they said the USA is worse. What?

Curious fact: "There have been no deaths in Australia from a confirmed spider bite since 1979"
And: "on average, 7 people in the United States die each year as a result of a spider bite"

AUS population is 26 million, USA 332 million, 12.8X.
AUS area: 3 million sq miles, USA area: 3.8 million sq miles

I saw those big spiders in Africa. One was running/hopping down the road- late for work probably

Used to work with a fellow from Aus.... He said one reason he left was that there are 200 kinds of snakes in Aus, and three of them are NOT venomous.

OP, the answer is mini split.
I had heat but no A/C. I put in a mini split and now have heat and A/C and don’t notice any difference in my electric bill.

...and they're probably giant constrictors that can crush small automobiles.

$2000 for a shop that doesn’t produce income for a person that gets $900/month SS doesn’t work!
I can wait for cooler weather for a lot less.

I saw a very large spider running around a job site for several weeks. He was sitting in a corner by the overhead door and I decided to to take a picture. It wasn't until I was intently framing the picture on on the screen that I noticed the head of a black snake right behind him in the corner! Good picture of the spider and the snake. Never saw him again after that.

When I was a teenager, there was a huge brick warehouse in Birmingham (Birmingham UK that is) called the Banana Rooms, because it was a central storage and distribution depot for bananas which had been unloaded from the ship in Bristol. Bulk bananas were notorious for containing some pretty scary spiders, and these things tended to escape and infest the surrounding streets. Its a shopping centre now. Wonder if any of the spiders still survive in the basement?
