  • Where Did my Post #'s Go?

In the thread about material to beat on, RminMN referred to his post #13. Only when I started to look for it did I realize I no longer have the sequential post numbers displayed. Is this a consequence of the so-called "font change" software mod?
Have others lost their post #'s too? (I assume RminMN still has his #'s.)

(added) Now I do still see the total number of responses to each thread on the page showing the active threads.

Take a look at the very bottom left of the page. There should be a drop-down menu for style. It should be set to "Default vB5 Style." If it's set to "Default Style" you won't see the post counts, along with other slight changes.

I've yet to confirm it, but I think some people had the styles change on them with the update.

I see the post numbers. For example, I am replying to your post #1. As mentioned it is probably caused by your "preferences and it has not shown up until the update.

          "...bottom left of the page..."
Which page are you referring to? On this page (that I'm currently typing my reply) my bottom left only has a drop down for English (US), French, Spanish, etc.
Bottom right shows powered by vBulletin version 6.0.0 plus some copyright stuff and my GMT -6 time setting. But I see no "Style" drop down. Nor did I on the Profile or user settings pages.
Though that term ""Default vB5 Style."" does look familiar. ...like something I stumbled across a few days ago when all this software issue first arose.

Chances are it's only visible to me. I didn't view things as a non-admin when I made the suggestion. It would be immediately left of the English selection.

Take a look in your user settings, there may be a way to change things there. There is on mine, and I believe you should be able to change them as well. At least it's part of the list of user adjustable settings.

Well whaddaya know... I signed off and in guest mode I did have the post #'s showing, PLUS the order of the posts were in the more logical and useful order: original post first, followed by successive replies, down to newest at the bottom. So it appears metalfixer and I are in the same mode.
I'll keep looking for that Default vB5 Style thingie. That is probably where the fix lies.

I've done some deeper digging. Although all registered users are set in the control panel to be able to change their styles, the option is not showing in the registered users (you guys) settings list.

I've noted that those who are complaining about the changes have their styles set to a different one than what I'm using (I'm also using it in my regular, non-admin account). Other than the new "like" options, my pages in both accounts are unchanged. If you would like me to change your style, I can do that as time permits, just let me know.

There is one option in the control panel to turn off the users' style permissions and force them into one style. Sounds like an easy fix but I've learned in the past that changes like this are a good way to break everything and it seems the user style settings are already messed up. The odds don't look good.

Yeah, Mr. Bulliss. Please don't force me to a particular style. I like how it is now, and I'm still seeing the post numbers!

OK current status: I'm now signed in. I'm seeing post #'s. My order of the posts are: original post at top - newest at bottom.
Don't know what changed to fix everything, but I'm happy.

I have no idea what changed either. Perhaps you just needed to log out and then back in. Your settings show that the style hasn't changed since I looked when you were having problems so looks like that theory didn't hold up.

I didn't make any changes to anything to cover the upgrade and I'm still seeing the individual post # 's in the upper right of each post.

What I don't see is the referred to selector in the very bottom left of the page. All I have down there is a selector drop down for keyboard language styles.

I was mistaken when I pointed Lynn to that menu. Registered users such as you should have the menu option, as well as having it in your settings, but it's not there. Everything on my end is turned on to allow it, but apparently something is broken.

Lynn managed to get things fixed by logging out and then back in, so there likely is no need to bother with the styles. I was just trying to guess at what was happening and seeing that those complaining had a different style set than mine, I mentioned changing their style, not knowing at the time that there is no way to change it.

I see the post numbers. I did nothing to enable that.

I did make a discovery about the order of the posts: oldest or newest first. Look at my post in the Doozer's new software thread for that.

You will find that it has discrete steps.

Here's a point of interest: By accessing the "Help" item at the bottom of User Settings, we find this last item:

Can I change the way the community looks?
You may be able to change the styling of the community by using the style changer in the bottom left of the page. This lets you choose different styles which change the color scheme and appearance of the community. If this option does not appear, the board cannot be restyled.
Interesting that it says "You MAY be able to change....." They could've offered a little more info there.
