  • Major announcement....

In case you folks haven't been paying attention today is national cheeseburger day according to CNN news.

CNN says McDonald's and Burger King are offering cheeseburgers for fifty cents today. My nearest McD is a franchise, franchises are notorious for not always honoring national sales campaigns. Plus that, their prices are 20% or more than company stores. I'll check later today to see if my local joint has the 50 cent CB's.

There was a time if I was on the road and not expecting to be home by dinner time I would grab some junk food to tide me over. Recently I stopped at McD for a cheeseburger and small drink, 8 bucks!!! No more.. I haven't totally resolved the issue whether it's paying that much or that I remember when that same order was under a dollar.

I think I'm getting old. In high school, two mickyburgers, fries and a shake was 83 cents.

      Yeah, you're getting old.

I had a couple friends in college, if we were studying late we'd go out for burgers and the deal was the one who could eat the most burgers didn't have to pay. Our favorite burger from a local chain were 18 cents.

If you haven’t seen it, “The Founder” is a pretty interesting movie. (It’s about Ray Kroc and the McDonald brothers)

I need to look that up since I was not aware of the film.
I worked for two packaging companies that helped Mr Kroc in the early days. Lily Tulip and Sweetheart Cup. They are both gone now unfortunately. Victims of leveraged purchases.

With that connection, I’m so sure you’ll like it…I’ll buy you a hamburger if you don’t! It’s pretty entertaining and really ought to be worth at least one credit hour towards a business degree.

I knew a beef buyer for McDonalds. They buy the lowest grade beef. Just barely legal to sell.

That deal is for the app only I think... I dont eat there often, but my kids showed me that the different items are cheaper if you use the McDonalds app to order and pay, then you pull into the drive thru and tell them your order number or pull into one of the waiting spots and press a button on the app that notifies them you are there and they bring it out. I didnt really want another app on the phone, but it definitely is cheaper than going and counter ordering or drive thru and there is almost always some deal going on, like free fries or a cheap burger.

Ray Kroc was a jizzbag. He was not interested in the McDonald brothers or how they made they business a success, just interested in squeezing as much money from the franchise holders as possible and forcing them to sell an inferior product. In the end, the founders lost the rights to use their own name for their business.

                              "There was a time..."

There was a time when I was starting a new job in a new city. I couldn't even pay rent but the company had a trailer they let me stay in. I had to budget my meals and toward the end of the month was taking advantage of a free burger offer with proof of several paid meals from one of the major chains.

Things got a lot better after the first paycheck and when my house sold so I could move the family.

                              Yes, there was a time!

And it is now 1:08 in the morning of the next day so I don't think I will be rushing to McDs or BK to see if they have 50 cent cheese burgers. But I think I can live with that.

Now my stomach is growling. Time for din-din.
