DRO QUILL KIT
I've noticed that DRO QUILL KIT typically have only 1/2 thou resolution (similar to digital calipers). This is true even with brand names like Mitutoyo. Is Z axis considered less important?

I suppose it depends on what you're trying to do, but I'd guess that is probably the case the majority of the time. It certainly seems as though that's the case for the kind of stuff I do.
(Note also that "1/2 thou resolution" really means plus or minus 1/2 thou, plus some amount of error, so you're really talking about a total error window of something over 1 thou.)
