  • OT- Waaaay OT- Viagra

So OT, I wouldn't blame Neil a bit to zap this thread...but here goes anyway....cuz I really am curious. A Wolfie comment got me to thinking about something I've not figured out.....and that is, why do some men actually need drugs like Viagra ?? I mean, it seems like one would have to have an erection to truly be "aroused" so if you are not "aroused" in the first place, then why is it so important to get that way ?? (I'm thinking older guys, who's wives are in "take it or leave it" mode with regards to sex)

Or is the issue mostly one of getting aroused and getting erection, but then loosing it halfway thru the event ?

Is it possible to be aroused and yet have yur tool still hanging there like a limp rag ??

Jest curious what the hell this whole Viagra thing is all about !

It's a known fact that if you suck a Viagra pill instead of swallowing it in one go, you get a stiff neck instead.

From what I recall reading is a magazine, this is how it works:

-to have an erection, your brain receives the appropriate stimulus, which starts an increase of blood flow to the penis

-there are small valves in the penis that contract, and by doing so, prevent the flow of blood back to the heart, which basically results in the penis getting "pumped up" because the blood has nowhere to go.

Before Viagra (and variants) came along, the trend was to try and increase the blood flow to the penis. The Viagra solution was to focus on the valves instead, and try to get them to close tighter, to work with a smaller blood supply. Apparently it works, as they seem to be making alot of money.

I am suspecting that using Viagra when you don't need it is like using Super unleaded gasoline in your lawn more, but I haven't tried it so I don't know for sure.

A serious answer to a serious question, so don't bother flaming me.....

Good info, but I still don't "get" the apparent popularity of the stuff.

Occured to me after I posted that some guys here could probably give the real scoop exactly but might be too embarassed to respond ! To that I say, re register in another name just for this thread !

Viagra doesn't give you an erection, it does help increase the blood flow to the penis. You still need the mental stimulation to activate the nerve centers in the brain that cause the appropriate muscles to contract which restrict the outflow of blood. In many cases of ED the problem is insufficient supply of blood which can be a result of arterial sclerosis, a very common condition. Viagra inhibits an enzyme that causes blood vessels to contract which would restrict blood flow as adrenaline is increased. By causing the blood vessels to dilate instead this allows for increased blood supply and better performance.

Oh yeah, seems an appropriate topic for one of my favorite quotes:

"God made man with both a brain and a penis but unfortunately only enough blood to run one at a time".

              from another board:

              Old Male Golfer
An elderly gentleman went to the local drug store and asked the Pharmacist for the little blue "Viagra" pill.
              The pharmacist asked "How many?"
The man replied, "Just a few, maybe a half dozen I cut each one into four
              pieces."
The pharmacist said, "That's too small a dose. That won't get you through
              intimacy."
The old fellow said, "Oh, I'm past eighty years old and I don't even think
about intimacy much anymore. I just want it to stick out far enough so I
don't pee on my new golf shoes.
What you say & what people hear is not always the same thing.

If you don't have ED to begin with, viagra reduces the refractory period to nil after climax, no need for a nap or sandwich, just keep going and going like the energizer bunny and I think that's why it's so popular.

I seem to recall that the young bucks have become a significant consumer for just that reason... But I have to wonder, are they enjoying it, or is it just giving them the big head?

took one a few years back(30 years old now) for the hell of it, it was fun for awhile, but even at a young age, you(and her) only have so much energy and 5 hours was too much for me.

And thats enough TMI for the day.
