  • Live center

I have come on a live center with a straight shank, that is no taper. What would one use it for? I have thought about it some and with my somewhat limited experience I can't come up with a use.

        For a turret.
But i bet you could have all kinds of fun mounting it on the nose of the lathe in a collet ,mounting the work between centers , but fixing work so it didnt rotate.
put a tool in side ways , put the feed to the carriage and you have a planer for long keyways ect.

Hey, I like this! It might just work!! Will keep it in mind. Thanks.

And to the guys who suggested a turret, well that's probably where it is intended to go, but it will be saved for the planer operation described above, but thanks for responding.

Or just chuck it in a tailstock drill chuck.
