cleaning up oxidized aluminum

I just cleaned up a 30 year old mag wheel by spraying it with carb cleaner, and then working the wheel over with a brass bristled brush loaded with simachrome polish. Looks like new and the brass doesn't scratch.

This sounds like its worth a try. But dosn't the 'carb cleaner' dry faster than you can brush?

SOS pads work well on aluminum. Used it to shine many things including a cylinder head. Took about 5 hours. The head now looks like it was plated. It is still a good idea to protect "shined" aluminum with a wax or clear coat.

There are two types of carb cleaner, sprays and soaks. The soaking method works best on crudded up carbs that have been sitting in the junkyard for 30 years...

Not to be confused with exlax or Metamucil - which can also clean out your "throttle plate".
