  • Measuring equipment and testing stuff

Is there a book that explains some of the things that machinist use to be precise and to set things up. I depend on catalogs some times for things that I get in the Buy it by the Pound" sales.I do know a lot about the basic measuring tools, but some I have never seen. I know about pop gauges, I have a nice set of them, I even have a left handed (one arm) pop gauge, I have depth gauges, calipers, micrometers, travel dial gauge. I have the Machinist Library, the 2 volume set and the 3 volume set.

There are many books on metrology available. Basic machining books will usually show the use of common tools. Metrology books will get into more arcane subjects such as standards for threads, holes, length. Your library can also get you books on loan so you can check them out before spending good money on them. The best way still to learn is to have someone teach you about the tools and their use.

      Thrud,
How many Kilometres do you live from Montreal? Or miles, if you wish.

Anyone have a book title for metrology?

The library has endless books on the relationship of metrology to this and that.

        half.com has things like:

        Fundamentals of Dimensional Metrology

and the Hand Book of Industrial Metrology

        http://half.ebay.com/cat/buy/prod.cg...1856&meta_id=1

HELP! I am lost, and I can't find my beer also.
