  • Spindle Belts

Are V-Belts commonly used for lathe spindles? Seems like all I'm seeing are flat belts.

depends on the lathe and when it was made. V belts and flat belts are both used.Flat belts were used originaly when line shafts were common then still in use for quite a while after small electric motors became available.

There are some modern lathes which use a form of flat belt not all old line pulley especially those with variable speed.Alistair

Thanx for the answers guys. Seems like I'm OK on this one! LOL! I've got 4 way V-belt cones but a Logan Model 940-2 was originally a flat belt. There is an almost identical Logan 1900 Series that had V-belts tho. Apparently I've got cone pulley's from a 1900. I dunno how or when but that's a harmless enough modification. Some would say it's even better. No worries ....
