  • CNC Mill shaping

Fixturing a shaping tool unto a milling arbor and locking the spindle will give you a 3 axis shaping capability under CNC control! I have cut grooves, keyways, knurls, and contoured surfaces using this technique. Anyone else into this ?

    Yeah,

Had 10,000 alum. discs .250 x 3.5 dia with 5 holes 8-32 around edge had square hole in center. I did not want to broach as secondary op. so we held broach in a collet with spindle locked and broached the hole. It was a little tricky at first but after some adjustments on surface grinder it worked fine.

      yeah,
i cut tapered slots in a scrap cutting head for beth steel some years ago.
just made a rotation lock for the spindle
and used some kind of boring tool for plaining.
i looped sub programs (adjustable to tenths)
on our dah lih machining center to do the
      cutting action.
it worked good but the design had changed before the job was done so the heads probably ended up in the bay.
