I say true
Hi,
I once saw a stuffed Byfield Hog in Byfield Massachusetts that was over 10 foot long. They stopped breeding them because they got too heavy to stand up and the demand was for bacon hogs of about 250 pounds.
I will say that the one in Georgia looks larger even though a little shorter.

I never knew a pig could get that big, im afraid of pigs and that thing would freak me out, id rather face a bear or puma than one of them thar pigs...
You can hide under somethin from just about any critter but a pig will be rootin around till it digs you up, dont like em, never have, thats one big pig, biggest pig iv ever seen.

Hoax. The boar as shown in the pic and reported is too large for the stated weight by at least 3 times. The formula for estimating the weight of a horse is:
Multiply Girth X Girth X Length, Divide by 300, Add 50
This should be reasonably close for a pig as well and is good to a few percent with a horse. Given the stated length as 112" minus about a foot for the forward part of the head we have 100" length and estimating the girth from the pic as 100" the formula gives 3383 lbs. In order for the pig to measure that long and only weigh 1000 lbs it would have to be built like a snake.

This is where the hoaxers get tripped up. They think that if you double the apparent size of something then the weight doubles also, not usually being very familiar with math or science. So make a 500 lb hog twice as long and it should weigh twice as much. Wrong. Weight goes up as the cube of the dimensions because if you double the length you also are doubling the height and width. The 500 lb hog should become 8 times heavier, or 4000 lbs.Free software for calculating bolt circles and similar: Click Here

Yeah ...see your reasoning behind the weight issue loud and clear Evan ..
don't believe the boy killed it.
but don't see the point of boasting of killing something that is so rare....by that i mean the size of it ......if it was true....could have made the boy thousands as a tourist attraction..alive.
all the best...mark

I was stalking that one with my small bowie knife and wearing my usual female boar skin, when that darn crazy kid came out from behind a tree and shot him.
While he was reloading to shoot me, I had to jump up and show him there was a naked man under that females skin.

Your taking your "hunting" a little to seriously,,, or perhaps not seriously enough, at any rate all i was doing was drinking a cup of coffee and now thats ruined...
I believe that Evan has got to be right and the pig is a hoax --- but one note, you should not compare it in any way to a horse, muscle weighs much more than fat, and the pig whould take up allot of outer surface area as compared to a horse, comparing it to another pig and doing the math (because it is not as it seems) is the correct method to use... Im saying this because it looks more like a pig than a wild boar, (where's its tusks?) wild boars actually have allot of muscle mass to fat ratio.
There is something that someone mentioned, all we really have to compare the pigs size is the boy himself and his handgun, what if that boy is a total runt and half the size he should be for an 11 year old? What if the kid weighs in at 145 Lbs.?Last edited by A.K. Boomer; 05-26-2007, 09:31 AM.

Does anyone else feel upset that it took 9 shots to kill the boar? When I hunted I was always told one shot, if you can't drop it with one shot, wait till you have a better shot. The odd time I had to use a second shot to dispatch the animal. My two cents.
