  • When are these Reamers used?

I am going thrue a catalog and see Straight Flute and Spiral Fluted reamers.
When does one use one or the other?

Straight flute style reamers for the most part are hand type ,twist type reamers whether straight or tapered are more suited for machine use and are less prone to chatter

Spiral yields less chatter, better finishes and tighter tolerances. They really shine in soft materials.

My particular favorite are the lefthand spiral right hand cut models, great for bronze and cast iron.
I just need one more tool, just one!

Straight flute reamers are used in plain bores. Spiral flutes are used in bores with keyways or other interruptions that could cause the reamer to jam.

Either style can be had in hand or chucking reaners.
