  • Online Source For Small Bronze Gears?

I'm trying to help out a poster on another message board. Here's what they're looking for:
I'm trying to find small (half-inch to one and a half inch or so) gears for use in making jewelry. The gears should also be fairly thin, or at least not thick, to help with weight. I'm hoping for brass, bronze, or steel. They don't even need to be high-quality gears, just something that looks like a gear.
    Any suggestions?

Small Parts, Inc. have some small gears listed under "Drive Components".

Salvage gears from junk mechanical watches, clocks, watt hour meters, small mechanisms, etc.

Stock Drive Products / Sterling Instrument (http://www.sdp-si.com) sells a huge range of gearing products, in both metric and english sizes. I've never purchased anything from them, but I do know of people who have.

check out flea markets or garage sales for one of those "7 day" anniversary clocks that are usually under a "bell" jar.

They've got lots of gears (and other useful things) and the clocks usually don't cost more than a couple of $. The brass in the clock is probably worth more than the clock.

Tucker Mcmaster Carr used to sell brass gear rod stock in 4 ft lengths. Now they only show steel stock in 1 ft lenghts.
