  • Gear / Belt Lathes

I learned on small Southbends and worked with large Clausing/Colchesters. Have not had luck finding an acceptable small used lathe. Wether large or small, if I set it up right the cuts would be flawless. The consern I have is the reports I read comment that the small gearhead lathes will not provide fault free finish cuts. This is because gear vibration is transfered to the spindle and causes uneven surface finish. I have gotten quotes on the Griz G4003G, Jet GHB 13/40 and the Jet BDB 13/40. The Jet dealer said the above information is correct and that their belt drive will give better surface finishes.
It also has 12 speeds. What would be the best way to go with the low priced import lathes? Thanks
