  • power hacksaw ques?

A friend at work gave me a small power hacksaw (dayton) his father had in his basement he was cleaning out. I used a larger one back in shop at school which was a very nice tool to have, but this one is a large lump of rust and missing some parts. After looking it over its made up of alot of looks like easy parts to make.
Sooooo i'm thinking take it apart increase the dims and maybe build a larger one , say using a 18"(?) blade the same motor and sprockets etc.
Any feedback on this ? I know its a handy tool to have , looks like a good project with very usable results.
    thanks hugh

Go for it. But 12 inch blade is big enough. Built one my self when I first set up shop 35 years ago. bought the smallest power hack saw blade I could find and built saw around it. >093 wide cut 12 inch long 1 inch tall . used saw for a number of years until I got a wells cut off band saw . Then sold saw for $100.00
