  • Brown and Sharpe Collets - Questions

I just acquired several Brown and Sharpe collets. The are marked Made in England and the # 21 (along with the hole size).

I am not familiar with this type of collect. How are they used and what type of machinery are they used on?

They are used mostly on turret lathes and automatic screw machines. Wood tool company makes an adapter that so they can be used on a south bend lathe- that's what I use.

      B & S #21 collets

I used to use them in Traub automatics. One Traub had a #21 in spindle and a smaller same type collet in the tail stock. Used to make roller bearings where we faced tit off part as it was held in both driven collets. Parts came off machine finished.
