    Lets say i want to turn a taper on a 40 in long peace of steel my lathe has a taper turning attachment. Am i right in thinking that the taper can not be turned in one shot if so were do i start? In the middle to the right or to the left?

    Start at the Large side, and work to the small.

      If your lathe has a ball bearing TA, you may consider something along this line;

        Can you offset the tailstock?

          Harry, I'm not a regular on the Monarch forum, so I didn't want to post a reply, but that Variator you made is one of the coolest machining projects I've seen in a long time!
