Check and see how many used Dies are out there, and The cost of new ones.

Your best bet is a Brand name one.
      IMHO

Thanks Jay! That's what I wasn't sure about..."The Brand Name" thing. I'll stay away from this prolly.

Find out if it is the floating kind. If your turret is even a little bit off it won't make good threads.

Looks like a cool tool but if there aren't any dies available ....

I just got that book from Amazon. Paid more than 99 cents for it but $16.49 incl/shipping wasn't a killer .....

You know what cracks me up? Just about everybody pictured in the book has a tie on. Yeah right! How many of you guys wear a tie in the shop?

I have it also. Ties were the thing in the old days I guess.
And how many are wearing safety glasses?

I just love the Photo on Page 28. Thats When Machinist were men.

IIRC, the Eastern die heads are hard to find chasers for, the second die head by TRW is a solid adjustable type, if it takes Geometric chasers, they are easy to find. TRW owned Geometric at one time, may still do.
IMO, the best type of die head for you would be a Geometric style D. They come in several sizes, 5/16, 9/16, 3/4, 1, 1-1/4 etc etc. The one I showed in the other posting is 1" Geometric style D.
Geometric die heads are very common, and very easy to find chasers for.

They don't release, never had much luck with them.

And the seller is kind of a Dick Head.IMHO
