  • My weekend project Tail stock DRO

I cut up a HF 4 inch digital caliper for this project.

May not be 100% accuracte but far better than those scribed marks on the shaft. And it can be removed very quickly.

Nice job! I think I'll do that.

      Cool!

I've always liked the idea of doing this.

Here's another lathe set up with a tailstock DRO:

It's a 7x14 belonging to Cedge over on the HMEM board.

      Best,

      BW

        Heads up!

The Harbor Freight flyer I got in the mail yesterday has the 6" digital calipers on sale for $9.99, which is inexplicably $5 cheaper than the 4" calipers. I've only got 2.5" of travel on my tailstock, but at that price, who cares if there's a bunch of extra length! The flyer is the one with a 15% off any one item coupon on the back and sale prices ending April 7th. The caliper ad is at the top left corner of page 4.

I like to seat my MT. tooling in my tailstocks with a light twock from a leadheaded hammer. I think that would be hard on the tailstock DRO if I had one.
