all motors run on smoke, once the smoke escapes the motor quits.

    bought a used grinder

I bought a used cup grinder on stand fo a present for my old pal Fred I have one already but bought this as it's single phase and he could really use it he has been good to me so I want to do it up for him.Anyway the one I have is three phase no use for my pal the one I just bought is single it has a forward and reverse switch on the single phase motor with no capacitor it whan switched on made a humming sound then I started to spin the wheel by hand which turned very slowly then a cloud of smoke came out of the motor. What should I do the motor is flange mounted and 0.6 hp could it be just dirt as it has lain for some time without working Alistair
