  • 4 dollar gas and its effects on metalworking at home

Well it looks like we will definitely see $4 dollar gas this summer.

Any thoughts as to how this will affect us HSMers in the shop?

I already find myself limiting the distance I will drive to view,
purchase and pickup machines and supplies for my private home shop.

Frank Ford may be paying $4/gallon already, unless he drives up to Woodside Road.

By my calculation, that is about 82c Oz, per litre.
        We are currently paying $1.44/L

          Rollerblades, skates or pushbikes anyone?

And here 91 octane fuel is $1.78 a litre now and next year could be up to $2.13. Multiply that current price by 4.5454 and we are seeing NZ $8.09 / gallon in 2008 and NZ $9.68 in 2009

Yup. Ours is currently the equivalent of $10.50-$11.00 a gallon

I expect gas to hit the $10 mark in the United States in the foreseeable future.

We will be looking back at these times as the good old days.....

When you consider the ever increasing cost of fuel, one can easily foresee that those who make their living traveling to auctions are in for an upcoming lifestyle change.

Hey Speedy, don't wanna hijack the thread, but is there much geo-thermal power in NZ?

                    So?

Well, it seems that despite the US petrol prices being "real bad", they'd be welcome at the US price equivalent in a lot of the rest of the world.

We should be so lucky to be so unlucky.

Sorry those in the US - your leading sympathy has short-suited the rest of us!

Yes there is a bit of it, we are the "shakey isles" after all. Most well known are Wairakei and Ahaaki.
We have loads of good coal that the Kyoto nutters wont allow us to use. We sell loads to China though. And very likely more now that we have the freetrade deal with the new world power.

We are already paying over $4 per gallon here. It's around $1.20 or so per litre.

You won't hear me complaining..it is long overdue.

The sooner the United States gets serious about developing alternative energy sources, the better off all of us will be.

                              Thanks Lin.

PM/email it to me too thanks. Email might be easier - attached - saves re-type and 5,000 word (or character) VP limit on PM's.

I've been VERY "hot and steamy" in Kyoto. Started off with LOTS of "Yen" and came back with none left. And best yet - not a politician in sight!!

Only "greenies" in sight were over the ships bow and sides!!

Had lottsa "Greenies" on board too - "Electrical Branch" aka "The Green Empire" - wanted to take over everything and everybody!!!

Lottsa carbon too - every bl**dy time the Boiler Room crews "blew soot" to clean it from the tubes and blow it all over the upper decks!! Tons of it!!!!

Never did find out what they paid for gas (petrol) there then - never asked either.
