  • Nomenclature question - Knife Tool

    All,
I've been looking at several posts about flycutters lately and have seen many references to a "knife tool" which appear to conflict with each other over what is actually being described.
Is there a standard definition of this term? I've looked through my metalworking books and have come up dry.

    Thanks.

    knife tool

I'ts been 64 years since I left the old sod but I seem to remember that knife tool is a limey term for a right hand lathe tool. Peter
The difficult done right away. the impossible takes a little time.

I've seen that definition, a cut-off tool definition, a straight "finishing" tool definition also. What makes it a "knife? The shape of the cutting edge?
