Definitely aluminum, too light for anything else. Ridiculously light, I noticed it because they 'felt wrong".....

Quite reasonably hard, also, but nuts are somewhat marred-up by lockwashers.

There wasn't any galling noticeable, but then the area was pretty well oiled, so it might have been prevented.

2024 and 5086,the 5086 is the choice for salt water.I have sold a lot of 5086 bolts and studs over the years to the local boat yards.

    bolts

Are you sure they are aluminum? Could they be titanium?

2000 series, probably 2024 unless it was anodized. 2024 doesn't anodize well.

7000 series is also a possibilty.

    Alloy for aluminum bolts?

Refurbishing a Navy small genset, I was surprised to discover the bolts used to hold down the motor were aluminum.

The nuts were ALSO aluminum, which surprised me quite a bit, due to galling concerns.

What alloy would be used for such?
Working...
