  • OT- Saving the Lewis Yahoo Group

In my search to try and identify a shaper that I recently ran across I found Art Volz's Lewis Machine Tool group. http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/grou...yguid=91651199
I am interested in trying to save what is left of this valuable resource for Lewis Machine Tool owners. Since Art's passing the group has been completely overrun by spammers. Is it possible to take over moderation of a group like this or is this just a lost cause?

It may be a lost cause. If he started the group and didnt make anyone else a owner of the group there is no way of managing the group.

    I started a yahoo group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bridgeport_mill
and made a couple new moderators. But none of them have group owner privileges. So they can keep it afloat but cant make anyone a owner of the group and thats what it takes to manage the group overall. If Art didnt make anyone else a moderator or owner the group is lost.... JR

While I don't know anything about how Yahoo in specific operates, I'd assume there has to be a way that a Yahoo tech or admin could allow another person to moderate. Has anyone tried to send a message to whatever department handles that sort of thing at Yahoo?

      Doc.
Doc's Machine. (Probably not what you expect.)

CUT and paste the good things..

THEN, start your own group but add #2 on the end..
Make sure to give credit where due.. Make a post there on group #1 directing to your new site..

I have a couple sites I have not taken care of in a long time.. Not done any real programming since my father passed away a couple years ago.
        Excuse me, I farted.

I will have to try and see if I can get in touch with the someone from the yahoo administration staff. If I can't then I will have to do as David suggests and just start a new group and paste all the good stuff over to the new group.

Is anyone still in touch with Art's family? Maybe we could try that angle too. Losing Art sure left a huge hole in the shaper knowledge base.

            Brian

I think somebody has already done what you are intending to do, take a look at this yahoo group: LewisMachineTool all one word. I am not sure that all the info was transferred to the new group.

Thanks Micheal. You are correct and the original group was ported by Irby Jones. I appreciate the pointer in the right direction. Now to let the old group fade away.
