  • Annealing Brass

When annealing Brass or Bronze do you water quench or air quench? I am helping a friend build a Dovetail Saw and the brass or Bronze is for the back. The material is 1/8 inch thick and before folding 1-1/2 inches wide by 8 inches long. So far those "in the know" have suggested both water quench, just let it cool and compressed air quench.

For copper alloys, it is the heating that removes the stresses from work-hardening. It really doesnt matter how the metal is cooled unless you are in a hurry.
