  • Tool and cutter grinder

Can a tool and cutter grinder of the style of say a Cincinatti #2 be used for small surface grinding and some internal/external cylindrical grinding as well???

All provided you have the necessary attachments of course..

    Cinci #2 T&C grinder

    Ringer.

Should be able to. Others here will be sure.

See these links for starters. Seems to be able to do the lot.

      Servian combination

This is an interesting Servian - made in Sydney - T&C grinder combined with a small surface grinder.

Were Servian's made in Sydney....I thought they were an East European company...

          Ringer,

I'm not familiar with the Cincinnati 2 taht you refer to, but I have a Boxford Union T&C grinder. The problem with it for surface grinding is the vertical wheelhead adjustment - mine has a coarse threaded collar that's fine for moving in 1/10 inch increments, useless for 1/10 thou.

Something to watch out for if you go to buy a T&C grinder for use as a surface grinder.

            Bob,
As Ringer mentioned I think the Servian came out of Europe, maybe Spain. I have 1 and its well finished. The item for sale did not appear to have a number of the normal items with it and the motor looked to be after market single phase. As far as using for other grinding tasks, the Sevian not really too light, heavier weight ones probably yes but as mentioned feed rates prob too coarse.

Yes and it does great angular work as well - if you have all the tooling. However you’re going to be splitting .001s and not .0001s
