  • aluminum scraps in the Los Angeles area?

Hope this is the correct forum for this kind of info. I recent bought a X2 to learn with at home, looking for some aluminum scrap pieces for practice. I heard there are recycling yards in the area, but haven't found one that has more than just aluminum siding or window scraps. Any locals knows a place? I'm in Cerritos, near the LA / OC border Thanks,

M & K has a small table of cut-offs you can pick & choose from. I've bought hunks of AL round and cut-off rectangular pieces. Yes, they sell it by the lb, but don't know what the going rate is nowadays. I suspect it is somewhere around $2.50-$3.50/lb.

They're on Western, just north of Rosecrans Ave.

I was talking to IMS metals and the Al cut offs are $2.50 per LB and theirs are always clean and on the shelf. I have checked a couple of other recycling places that are not much cheaper (maybe .50 cents less) but the stock looks beatup. Stop by one of IMS stores and you will be happy (no affiliation) .DavidH

Wherever you go be sure to ask for the remnants pile...most retailers have them. I would consider a weekend trip to Cal Aero Supply for sure:

              http://www.calaerosupply.com/ and open 7 days

Up in my neck of the woods there's IPS, Industrial Pipe and Steel, not that great on prices so I can't totally recommend them, but they too have a "per pound remnants" section of aluminum drops and such and are convenient.

I haven't bought surplus for a long time, bit I used to pay between $0.75 and $1.75 a pound. This is between say 2002 or 2004, scrap dealers were paying $0.35/lb. I have no idea what it's like today.

Couple of other places to check out:

                Industrial Metal Supply
                2072 Alton Parkway
                Irvine
                949-250-3343

                Schorr Metals
                837 S Kraemer Blvd
                Placentia
                714-630-1962

                Metal Depot
                14334 E Firestone
                La Mirada
                714-521-5494

The last time I bought from Schorr the price for aluminum was $2.85 a pound. That was almost a year ago, so I imagine the price has probably changed since then.

Happy hunting, and let us know what you find.
