why do people always build these IC engines without silencers. (mufflers)

surely the test of how well built it is , is to have it run mechanically quiet ...

and not making it sound like someone with a case of bad wind..discuising all its sloppiness and rattling within.

will add that ..if i was capable of such a feet...which i doubt ..mine would have silencers.....and would be really proud of the fact that it didn't rattle within.

The airplanes I fly, for the most part, are straight pipes.

The engine in question runs on CO² not really a combustion engine. Just a replica, the large ones that run on some form of petrol do have tuned mufflers/silencers.

    Tony,
I will be shooting some video of these projects that I will include on the disk when I submit my next article for DM at the end of the month. Craig Foster will be able to put them in Machinists in Motion.

Tony, You might want to show your friend this web site. Go down the list to Index Mechanism, Geneva wheels, it shows several types of Geneva wheels.

Plus a bunch of other interesting things.

Congrats to all of you. I think we need more kids like TM.

A friend of mine is fascinated by Geneva wheels. I'll be sure he sees this.

Here are some other photos of my entries. Both were battery powered with gearmotors in the wooden boxes. The walking beam transfer could be ran by the spectators by pushing the red button. I expected to loose some of the ball brearings, but all were still present at the end of the day.

The geneva mechanism ran continuously through the event.

and one of Teenage Machinist's Cryptex. I would liked to have had a closer look at this.

    Sherline challenge

Sherline challenge 2nd place winner, Is our own Weston Bye
He had two entries in this year. The Walking Beam Transfer which one 2nd. place and it is real hard to compete against a V-8 engine model.

His other entry was the Geneva Mechanism.

Since they don't put names or user names on the items when voting is going on I wasn't aware that Teenage Machinist had something entered. And since I have been occupied with set up the last week I haven't been reading many of the posts on the forums.
