  • Silver Soldering 303 SS

    Hi All,

I'm working on a prototype part that can be manufactured out of brass or stainless steel. I went to the metal store (Metal Supermarket in Kitchener) and priced brass and 303 Stainless. I was surprised to find that the stainless was about 30% cheaper than brass.

This part will have to be silver soldered to the rest of the assembly. I don't have any experience silver soldering stainless steel and I was wondering if anyone here has tried it before. I've read that 303 stainless doesn't like to be welded, but I don't know if the same applies to silver soldering.

    Thanks,

    Dave

It can be soldered if you use a very active fluorine based flux.
