    Jet gear oil for HVBS-56M

I drained the gear oil on my Jet bandsaw.

The manual says to use Mobil SHC-634.

    What is it comparable to?

I thought I was going to use some 90 weight gear oil, but now I'm not sure what to buy, or where to find it.

Mobil's SHC-634 is a ISO Viscosity Grade 460 industrial gear lube. A close substitute would be something like Texaco/Cheveron Pinnacle 460, or Royal Purple Synergy 460 but I don't think that's what you're asking. ISO grade 460 that translates to a SAE 140 weight gear oil. If you want the real thing Enco carries SHC-634 in quarts for about $15.

The Mobil SHC 600 series is a heavy synthetic gear oil. SHC-634 is ISO 460 weight, which is equivalent to SAE 140 (i.e., quite a bit thicker than 90W gear oil).

MSC carries SHC-634. It's about $20/quart, but you use very little of it in a bandsaw and it really quieted my Wilton's worm gearbox.

Grainger's has it also. I use it in my lathe QC Gear box.

www.grainger.com Product 4ZF30 - $18.00 a quart. Less if you get discount via a Grainer account.
