  • J6 Taper

I picked up a Rohm keyless chuck that has a sraight 5/8" diameter shaft. I want to replace that shaft with an MT2 taper. The chuck has a J6 taper. How do I get the old shaft out? And before someone suggests a punch through the jaws, there is no clear passage. Duffy

You should be able to drill through the bottom of the chuck to make a hole for a punch.

The "correct" way to do it though, is with chuck removal wedges. (I'm assuming a Rohm chuck will be the same as a Jacobs chuck in that regard.)
