  • Site Outage

As you likely noticed, the site was down for the last 24 hours. There was a planned outage for Saturday that apparently was done today. I don’t think we have any more planned work, but I was wrong today.

Soo, it wasn't a consequence of me posting my first pictures...

Glad what ever it was has been resolved....

I got a FORBIDDEN notice, with the following subtext:
You don't have permission to access /forumdisplay.php on this server.
              Apache/2.2.2 (Fedora) Server at bbs.homeshopmachinist.net Port 80

That made me wonder if the problem was with my system. Why was there no message stating that there was a site outage?

Because somebody didn't engage DNS forwarding.

There was, but it took a while to appear. Perhaps you didn't obsessively check over and over again for long enough?

Cheese capital of the central coast. Used to go there for weekend breakfasts when I lived in Santa Maria. Always loved the drive from there to Santa Barbara over the inland route via San Marcos pass.

If George would like, we could blame this on him too. Poor guy, I wonder what gets loaded on him at the office just for being the new guy???

All kidding aside, I was starting to get the DT's from the lack of HSM'ing on the web. Had to actually go out and make something on the lathe. I was in fear of having to pick up one of those old paper things, I think they are called books, to do my reading.

Short answer: You're Wrong. Longer answer, DNS forwarding would be an unnecessary complication. The page being served up was a default page (Fedora for a production server? Yikes.) A replacement for that default page would be all that was needed. Any DNS changes risk problems with cached records messing things up well after the maintenance is complete. Shaw's DNS servers are notorious for this.

No, not even a little bit (I had to use google to translate that). I'm an import, but I do really like it here. Very peaceful, friendly place. And they know you at the hardware store and market.
