  • Aluminum ID: 2219 T851?

    Got about 18" of 1" round aluminum, 2219 T851

What's this stuff used for and how is it to machine? I tried googling but couldn't come up with a general sort of description. Looks like it's got a pretty high copper content and it was described somewhere as "armor" aluminum or some such.

The 2000 series all have copper as the main alloying metal. It's heat treatable and non weldable. It has relatively poor corrosion resistance. The 2000 series alloys are usually some of the nicest to machine with chips that break and mirror finishes.

Did I mention strong? Now I did.
