  • Hardinge 2V Collets?

I just got my paws on 5 hardinge collet. They are marked 2V and I've never seen the like before...

What are they used for? Anyone got a machine that takes 2V here?

Might be a 2VB. See here for a listing of various collets and matching machines.

Got one cleaned up real good. Sure enough, there was a "B" following the "V"

      Thanks!

Thank you, I had forgotten about that page and you "forced" me to remember it.

My Reed-Prentice vertical mill used 2VB.
So did the tiny Cataract vertical mill.

Have you still got the mill, Doozer? If so, are you missing any collets?

I sold it to a fellow named Chip.
I gave him what I had with the mill, which was 3/8" and 1/2".
I am sure he would like to buy some.

                OK, that's a nice list.
I have a set of collets, no name, and want to know what they are. Is there a chart of sizes with names??

As to the original 2VB collets - they're also used in the Bridgeport "H" head, it's a small Bridgeport head without quill used on the old Hardinge horizontal mills.

                      me oo

I also ran across one of those 2VB collets, 3/8" Hardinge

And I have a set of smaller collets that does not appear to be on the list.
                      Can anyone identify them?

                      They measure

                      A - .500 body diameter
                      B - .313 looks like 5/16 USS internal thread
                      c - 3" OAL (plus or minus)

They are the six in the picture.
A 2VB is in front for comparison

Strangely, I've gotten several PM's in the last month or so asking about these collets. Amazing what Google digs up!

So, as an FYI to any one who has stumbled on this thread after searching Google for 2VB collets:
I no longer have these collets. They went to Doozer's friend.
