  • When your steady wont close enough...

Turning a long (200mm) 8mm shaft, then needed to tap the end M5.
So the thread was concentric with the shaft (only 1.5mm either side to play with) I didnt want to reset the shaft, so out with the steady so I could access the end.
Then I discovered that the steady wont close down that far, so heres my quick solution:

good solution. One thing on the monarch i dont care for is the steadies, crap imo compared to my standard modern ones.....but they probably sold each steady new for as much as my whole standard modern lathe lol
in Toronto Ontario - where are you?
