  • This is my drill grinder its a pain to use but does a good job.
I usually hand sharpen the bits and finish the cutting edge with it.
I can sharpen the cutting edge on the tip of end mills with it too.

        • Vise mount for my T & G

My tooling for my Clarkson Mk I T&G is slowly getting there, slowly. When I made my Morse 3 tool holder, I discovered split cotters. So I started with three of the following "D" shapes, two of which had split cotters.

I fabricated around the "D's", the base plate one is a little bigger. The 20mm diameter CRS round was welded to the first "D" and the face that mates with the second was faced off.

A second stub was welded to the second "D" which was faced off to mate with the first using a stub of CRS locked with the split cotter.

          Only four photos per page!

The third "D" with the second split cotter with the vice mounting plate welded to it.

The vise is a 1" screwless from CTC Tools which is big enough for my biggest lathe tools.

              • Matthew,

That is a nice Tool Grinder, replace that vice with a Air Bearing and finger and you will have a nice Tool and Cutter Grinder.

                  Jack,

                  Thanks,

The air bearing is a nice idea, but well beyond my pocket, and for the moment, my engineering skills! I'm starting to think about a Radius Grinding fixture now, but it's only a germ of an idea! I have three little projects I'm mulling over; a small bit attachment, adjustable carriage stops and an indexer for the morse 3 tool holder, no real ideas on that, but I want something that doesn't require collets if possible.

I have two other posts on tooling for my Clarkson Mk I T&G, one on my drill sharpening tool Page 74, post 740 and the other on my morse 3 tool holder, page 95, post 948.

                  Regards Matthew

                    Hi Matthew

I'm hoping these photos might help with ideas.

                    • Thanks Chris,

It's always interesting to see other peoples ideas. I'm thinking along the lines of split cotters again! Maybe you have other projects to show us?

                      • I needed to get an outside race of a roller bearing out from a blind hole in a gearbox casing tonight. I don't have any internal pullers and the case is quite weak around the centre of the blind hole as well as a plastic obstruction, so i made a quick and dirty internal bearing puller and pulled it carefully from the strong parts of the casing after heating with a hot air gun..

                        Cheers

                        • how do you grab the bearing with that?

                          • The last time I neede to remove a bearing like that, I just set it up on the bad of the mill, clamped the hot air gun in a retort stand, turned it on and walked away.

When I heard the bearing drop out, I came back!

                            • Looks allot like a honda trans. That outer bearing race should be a slip fit in there. I bet if you put a ice cube in the bearing race "pocket" for awhile you could have just pulled it out with your fingers.

                              • it's a rover pg1 box so may be similar to Honda, it's of the era where they shared some ideas and yes a bit of heat was used to ease it out, was just sharing the idea for when someone needs a quick puller method.

dian, the bolt heads are used to get under the lip of the bearing (in this case at the top) you have to space the bolt holes in the slug of material to suit the diameter of the bearing

                                cheers
