  • QCTP holder and Insert tool holder question

How big a shank will a Phase II AXA tool holder hold? .500?

Also, I am considering purchasing CCMT tool holders from Toolmex, the tool holder is branded TMX...anybody with practical experience on the brand, yea or nay?

    Thanks

I have just received 3/4" TMX holders for use with CCGT and DCGT
inserts, but have not used them yet.

Mine are made in Poland and co-branded 'Pafana' (TMX-Pafana).
Their appearance is satisfactory as was their price.

The Phase II #1 Turning & Facing Holder is rated for 3/16" - 1/2"
toolbits in the AXA size (250-101). For more information: Phase II

Some QCTP holders are available in a #1S Oversized configuration.
I do not see where Phase II offers one of these. However, Dorian
      has their AXA #1S (D25AXA-1-75, p/n 733101-01102) with a 3/4"
toolbit capacity. Aloris offers their AXA-1S with a 5/8" capacity.

Remember to verify whether such holders allow the tip of the taller
toolbit to be set to center height on your lathe.

        TMX make excellent tools:
        http://www.toolmex.com/index.cfm
Have several of them and use them in a pro shop day in/out
note: The eastern Europe countries were making and perfecting tools long
        before N-A was discovered.
Such great names as TOS,TUG,Lion,Skoda centers, etc
Just to name a few. Drop into any Industrial machine shop and you will
see at least one of the above being used.

I will second this. I have used nothing but TMX-Pafana tool holders in both CXXX and DXXX left cutting, right cutting and neutral configurations ever since I found that the cheap chicom holders that came with my lathe were pretty much junk. They have been great and also considerably cheaper than comparable Sandvik holders.
