It is a 2 hole outhouse and many times I have invited my wife to join me but for some reason she always declines. It is hard to understand women.

Matt, it was DC, but my wife had mapped out the tourism part in advance as it was going to be the first time my kids went to the USA, she wanted to make it memorable. We spent 3 days in DC sightseeing, did a few of the more interesting smithsonian's with spaceships and aircraft and engineering focus's etc, the spy museum with the kids and the money printing place etc, then I had to go south for a work thing for a few days while they damaged my credit card in the mall's. Nice place to visit, but nice to get back today also, and Iceland was pretty cold this time of year midaway too

                • Had some time and pedalled off to the shop. Was working on a burnishing tool (another thread) but didn't quite get finished... just ran out of time and had to pedal home. Got home and realised I was an hour early.... ARGHHH!!! Forgot to set the shop-clock. Could have finished. Be another week before I get back. Probably have some other fool idea by then and will be left with yet another unfinished project to clutter up the bench.

                  • spent all Saturday grading, then yesterday was spent servicing the bike and in the afternoon making a composting crate for the garden. Took a couple of scrap pallets (even managed to reuse 2/3 of the nails!), tidied up that corner of the garden and hopefully we'll have some soil for new raised beds in spring.

Also reminded myself why I hate using nails, especially in the dark (curse you daylight savings!). Have a nice blood blister on my thumb as as extra reminder.

Try popping it with a nail

Nails? Oh, yeah, I remember them. I have some in the shop somewhere. Probably used a dozen or two over the last 20 years. As Norm Abram (New Yankee Workshop) said a long time ago, "Nobody uses hammers any more."

BTW, shouldn't you be cursing Standard Time instead of DST? (As it happens, there's a proposition on the California ballot tomorrow to put the state on year-round DST. Heated debate!)

                        • I really don't care which way, DLS or SDT. just leave it alone, STOP switching back and forth.

                          • Be glad that you don't live where time zones are offset by 1/2 or 3/4 hours.

While most time zones differ from Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) by a number of full hours, some time zones have 30-minute or 45-minute offsets.

                            The concept is interesting:

And there is also "double summer time" in some countries:

France and Spain will observe daylight saving time on March 30, 2008. However, they will be on what some people call “double summer time” during this period due to time zone skews and shifted clocks.

yes, nails suck, but it's hard to argue with free I usually have to hide my nails or hammer or even both as the good wife sees nails as the solution to most interior decorating problems.

bah, I'm with lugnut - whatever time it is, stick with that one. 1. it just p!sses me off and 2. it seems philosophically wrong to just "change time". I know it's not a constant and all that, like the speed of light, but it just seems whimsical to futz around with it for the sake of it.

Paul - even funnier, some time ago the mayor of Mexico city decided to either go with DST or stop it, at odds with the state surrounding it. For a while that meant that people commuting to work into Mexico City had to change their clocks twice a day or somehow remember which place was which time.

                              • Back when the wife and I would fly out to the casino strip in Laughlin, Nevada. The plane would land across the Colorado river in Bullhead City, Arizona which stays on standard time, but Nevada switches. It was tricky adjusting from Central time going out, but coming home dealing with the time zone changes and making airline flight times was a pita. Especially so, since the return flight was in the early A.M.
