I'm guessing turkey and peas but what is that thing on top?

It's gravy with some turkey, gravy with some mash potatoes with plenty of pepper, and peas in cream sauce. I also cut a biscuit in half and soak it with gravy. Main course is always gravy

Edit: I also always cut the turkey up into small bite sizes so it soaks up the gravy more with additional surface areas

Looked like sweetened* potato mash casserole, a traditional christmas time food in here

*)potato mash is sweetened by amylase reaction at around 60 C temperature, not sure if there is better term in english than "sweetened"

I like mash potatoes with lots of gravy and plenty of pepper sprinkled on top. It's more like soup

Try "caramelized" but that is normally much hotter then 60C

              • Finally broke down and bought a generic k40 laser cutter. Its a slightly nicer one in that it has the lid interlock that turns the laser off when you open it, a e-stop button and a water temperature display, but it still has the original style bed, not the uprated design of the newer (more expensive) ones. I'll do the electrical safety mods when it arrives (the case isnt grounded sometimes and its made of steel) and a few other bits and bobs they need when unboxing.
I know already the control software and toolchain is terrible, so searching about and find k40 whisperer by scorchworks (who gets on here very infrequently) to control the k40 from linux and allow the work to be network copied onto a small single board computer you can mount in the case instead of all that coral draw and dodgy windows xp hacked dongle nonsense. Normally people use a Pi, but I have a complete aversion to them so it'll be going on a beaglebone black because I like my computers to still work after a abrupt power cycle.
I'll be getting a few other tweaks ready too, like a air assist nozzle, I've put fume extraction in the room already and I'll probably make up a mesh bed.
Just another bit of capability, nothing groundshaking, but it'll be handy to have it set up without tying up a bigger machine and I hope useful to laser out gaskets amongst many other uses.

                  That is definitely different process.
Beer "mashing" is more similar to process used for "sweetened potato casserole" but it gets confusing if I say "mashed smashed potato casserole"

                  • I bought an argon tank. This is probably a non-event for many but I have had the rest of the kit needed for TIG welding for more years than I care to admit. Spent the afternoon playing with the whole setup by practicing on some hotrolled and some 6061.

Could the gib be brazed in the bad spots and resurfaced/fixed?

One of my favorite things to practice when TIG welding mild steel is welding SCH40 pipe. You can easily inspect inside the pipe for penetration as well as cut a cross section out too. It's also a lot of fun.

                        • helped a neighbour replace the fan belt on his Tundra. He was trying to do it without lifting the front, so I got my hydraulic jack and jack stands and we got it done in about 20min. Earned myself a beer

                            • Milled bar stock for test indicator holders. Also broke one 1mm solid carbide endmill being too aggressive with the cut. Switched to 2mm as it gives bit more reasonable cutting speed.
Oh well, need to order more cheap solid carbide endmills from ebay/alibaba. 3 usd per piece so breaking one once in a while won't cause bankrupt.
