    • My daughter would have loved them also. About 35 years ago. Nowadays not so much, I think!
I cut it off twice; it's still too short

She was really excited. Ever since we broke open a geode near our summer home she's been talking about geodes ever since.

        • My youngest daughter is 38, she loved them at age age 10, and she still loves them. Of course she's a little odd, she moved to England, she married a engineer over there, and she's a writer.

          • Actually yesterday.

Noticed that the movable jaw on my Vertex 4" vise was able to be lifted a bit. Decided to do a service and also to find out how they work.

Took it apart and it was packed with chips in all the inaccessible areas. A good clean up, new grease and the correct adjustment on the jaw lifter set screw and it works like a charm. The outer set screw was not tight up against the inner one and must have moved slowly over the years.

The anglelock feature is more simple than I had thought but sure does its job.

            • I have those geode-looking rocks all over the place here. Seems like more pop up every time it rains. Haven't found one yet that has the large crystals inside. They either have nothing, sand looking crystals or salt looking crystals. Maybe I opened them a million years too soon.

I had some really special time with my 5yr old in the shop today. She was standing on a step-stool in front of the HF 12T press cracking her geodes open. She also got a magnifying glass for Christmas and was looking at the crystals inside with it. She's hopping and jumping around in the shop and I'm trying to calm her down and keep her from bumping into a machine or something

My kids and I were popping some open when we were down there visiting the inlaws. That and catching lizards.

First glance and I thought you were showing your collection of kidney stones. I thought " There is one tough s.o.b."

                    • Today I cooked a nice Christmas dinner. Ham, sweet potatoes, home made dinner rolls and peach cobbler, salad with my own blue cheese dressing. Burp. Just like my grandma made, well, kinda. But she would have had seconds.

                        Nice day, zero shop content.

She got 25 of them and 2 of them were quite solid. I broke one of the solid ones open on the press but it was quite violent and didn't really have any crystals inside and didn't bother trying to force the other solid one open. But the remaining 23 were a lot of fun. The nicest ones seem to break apart the easiest too.

I would have liked trying to cleanly cut a geode in half with a wet tile saw (Which I haven't needed in 10+ years) but I just gave it away last week in the free lot -- funny how that works

And so the collection starts again, only this time it will be even larger.
                              At least that's my excuse.

Sounds like a reason to buy a water jet cutter.....
