  • I installed the new super low gear rear cluster and lowered and lengthened the derailleur arm on my long tail cargo camping bike. Took it for a trial ride down to the river, it worked good. This old man ought to be able to take it over the rockies to Ventura Beach where the girls in bikinis roller skate up and down the ocean front sidewalk. It was bitterly cold and windy this morning, I should have worn better ear protection. A couple of weeks ago, the river was was up to the blacksmith's elbow.

I took it off the trailer with my hoist, then wheeled it over to the wall with the cherry picker.

Now that's the way to get r done! I'll be checking the hole in my mill's ram to see how thick the threaded section is, or if it goes all the way through the casting. The cherry picker would make it easier to get in and out of the garage for cleaning.

          • Thanks for the photo of corn dogs 3PH. I've seen & heard of them in countless American movies but never understood why the yanks were so keen of a vegetarian snack. Never realised there was a sausage inside.
vpt - that's an engine hoist. A cherry picker is an hydraulic platform.

Backwoods Merica Bill Bob calls it a cherry picker ever since 1939.

Make sure to lube up the wheels with some chain lube good first. They do move the mill around but it ain't like rolling around on an office chair.

Good advice. It also applies to floor jacks. The difference in moving them around after lubing them up is amazing.

For sure! About once a year I give my jack a shot of lube. I really like chain lube!

I don’t know about the OP. However when my Lagun was installed by local riggers the used an eye on the ram to put a steel rod so a forklift could lift it into the shop so it could be placed on rollers.

                        • As most of you know I have a lot of Delrin that I’ve collected over the years. Some is still in fixtures that was discarded. I’m always needing round stock. I ripped some of the leftovers into approximately 1” squares and turned them round.

there is an industry of creating chemical tastes. McDonalds tastes the same if the beef came from Texas or Argentina or Scotland, because it all gets sprayed with their version of Beef in a Bottle.

the guy who invented the taste of Famous Brand Burgers Beef in a Bottle is in a one customer committed to your particular flavor of Beef in a Bottle as long as they are in business relationship with Famous Brand Burgers.

if you make a taste with petrochemicals, that taste was derived from a material that is found in nature, ergo, it is a natural flavor. so "all natural flavors" means YRB: Yeah, Right, Buddy.

                            • Professor,

You might think about putting a idler cog just behind that empty bottom bracket to keep your chain from derailing, you have a LOT of free chain sag that when riding in rough roads can jump off the sprockets. Ask me how I know

Take a look at recumbent bikes to get an idea of what you might try.

                              • Good advice. The casters and wheels on my Cherry picker/engine hoist/shop crane, have hollow, cross drilled axles with grease fittings for lube, and I keep it greased.
