  • Happy birthday Brian, and congrats on your weight loss. I too have diabetes and take three pills for it, two of them twice daily and still have readings in the 150's. I'm not overweight, but inherited the sugar gene from family. When I was walking a mile each day the numbers dropped 30 points, so keep up the fat mans walk. I stopped walking for other health reasons, but I'm well enough now to get back on the trail as soon as I finish one last project

    • The trails I walk on across from my house are Township property. Most walks are uneventful, just me huffing and puffing and swatting mosquitoes. Today I met a lady who may have escaped from the circus walking her spaniel. She had flame red dyed hair and tatoos on every inch of skin that was visible. Maybe she used to be a sailor---Said Hi, bitched about the heat, and kept on walking.

      • good for you Brian, that's a fabulous result! Diet makes a bigger impact than many would think, especially for those with sweet teeth like me. I had some marginal blood readings at a check up a year ago, so cut back on the sweet stuff (mostly by passing the Nutella jar without stopping) and lost 10lb. I'm only a few pounds off of not being overweight according to my BMI, first time in 20 years or so!

        • I decided I wasn't happy with the result, especially on the vertical head so I bought more paint and sanded and went at it again. This time it's not perfect either, but I guess I am satisfied now. It might be hard to see on the photos but I think it's an improvement.

Of course as the paint dries it will become more matte looking as well. It's not the same gloss as the deckel original paint, I think when dry it's more forgiving. Maybe some of you think it's silly to spend so much time on looks, but it really boosts your motivation to continue and do good work when you see the results.

          • It's not silly at all. These sort of things you only do (I'm tarring the rest of you with the same brush as myself here...but I don't think I'm wrong) because you take pride in a job well done. But if the result isn't what you'd hoped for it's disheartening at a minimum. Worth the cost of the extra paint for a result that you're happy with....because regardless if everyone else thinks it's fantastic (and it looks it from here!) if YOU don't, it's worth nothing.

            • Yesterday my mate came round and we made a chuck backplate for his old lathe. It started out as an old drive wheel for a window cleaning cradle and a few hours later ended up a backplate with a 2.25" x 4tpi Whitworth thread turned in it.

As you have discovered, axle stock can be some tough stuff. I have ruined several carbide bits on axles, before giving up on ever tryig to machinie one again

                            • Release the video where I did a couple of projects. The saw fixture for flat stock may interest some of the forum members. This lets me cut odd sizes of small flat stock on the horizontal band saw. This complements my round stock fixture https://youtu.be/94D-qm_uqjY

                              • Yesterday (I'm almost always late posting) I bought a new lawn mower. My poor old Lawnboy just refused to start anymore and it's only 36 years old. I'm thinking it has compression issues.
