I did the unthinkable, I removed the Windows10 partition off my MacBook Pro and went 100% MacOS on it. Keep in mind, this is my only computer for half the month while I am at work. Mac's just run better in MacOS. Battery lasts 5 times longer, doesn't get as hot, runs at a lower voltage. All tricks that Apple implemented to cover up their ****ty design. Also why mac's are slower. Unfortunately, most of those tweaks are not accessible to Windows10, because Apple.
Luckily, all the software I use is available on MacOS.

Today I made a small adapter that will allow me to use this battery to replace a battery like this in my 2006 Nissan X-Trail. It's the original battery and getting weak and a friend gifted me an Optima spiral wound GEL battery but the terminals are reversed to what the SUV takes and the positive cable has NO wiggle room whatsoever. Fortunately the negative cable has lots of length to move it easily.

I took a 5 1/2" by 1 3/4" piece of 1/2" thick 6061 T6 aluminium, drilled and tapped a hole in one end to screw in one of these and at the other end I bored out a tapered hole to slip over the replacement battery post. A long slot up the middle of the piece and a hole drilled crossways through it for a 1/4' bolt to clamp it tight on the replacement battery's positive terminal and Bob's your uncle.

I stopped by the annual Edgar Steam Show and the weather was perfect. However, I didn't get to go through the flea market this year as my grandfather was with us and we didn't want him on his feet too much.

Afterward, I worked on the Brooks cutter-grinder base some more. A few weeks ago, I had to take a skim cut of the upper and lower slide blocks to get everything in better alignment. Using the "vise-in-a-vise" method made this much easier than my previous attempt where I tried to shim the blocks in the vise.


So with that done and some other miscellaneous parts made, I assembled the unit to test whether or not this small pulley and belt will work for the left-right traverse. Turning the shaft, the pulley size feels about right, so the plan is to cut a keyway in the 3/8" shaft and let the pulley float fore and aft with the table. Two small delrin idler pulleys mounted to the upper slide block will keep the belt from fouling other parts.

Today I celebrated my 68 birthday!

I went out to a friend's acreage and returned their two dogs to them that I babysat for half a week while they were off on a bit of a sightseeing trip and had a wonderful home cooked supper and a very enjoyable evening with them.

My 38th birthday was last night. We celebrated by hoisting the kids off on my parents on friday and on saturday we went to the biggest boot fair in Finland and spent the whole day walking around, then finished it off with a restaurant visit.

Got myself a couple of micrometers from said boot fair and some other trinkets, only had a 0-25mm one until now, now I also have a 25-50 and 50-75 mm.





Today I've cleaned the shop.

I bought a mixer, a swedish Electrolux Assistent from the 1980s. These are great for bread baking. I have a conventional mixer (Kenwood major) that does all the usual stuff well enough, but I've never been entirely happy with the dough hook and kneading so when I found this for 20 euros I decided to make it a project. A nice distraction from my FP2 woes.



First thing to do is take it apart. I'm going for as complete a renovation here. I'm also going to bleach the plastic parts using hydrogen peroxide and UV method. The design is pretty simple, a motor drives a gearbox via a flat belt and on top it's the bowl that rotates, not the tool.





Started polishing some of the parts, they had gotten a patina with the years, I am not sure what material this is, not aluminium anyway.

Motor starts without any problems though this old RIFA capacitor should be swapped on principle alone.



The "PTO" for various accessories looks like it has had a hard life. I am not sure if it will work or not like this. I think though I could repair this on the lathe and superglue in a new part, or some other method of fastening.

Loads of them on tori.fi unless you're looking for a new one. I like the old designs myself. I read the manual (found a pdf online) and the PTO socket is just for a mixer attachment, so I will not bother. I have a stand alone mixer and several of my other appliances came with mixer attachments.

Frankly I am drowning in mixers.

Instead of sleeping, my brain decided it must know how a turning clutch works on a bulldozer...

I get that with some of the projects I'm working on. Can't sleep because the how's of the project are going round and round my brain - usually unproductively. Sometimes it's the kick that gets me to finish something - must finish this because I want to sleep tonight!
